Written by Tony’s wife.
Tony first started to feel restricting back pain in Spring 2023. The most significant time, when playing golf, his favourite sporting pastime!
By the end of the Summer, he was only playing golf occasionally. He reluctantly went to see our osteopath. The advice was to see his GP for further investigation but was only prescribed painkillers and NHS Physio appointments. Four months later and reduced to continuous painful movement with 8 painkillers per day, an MRI was agreed. This showed results that shocked the NHS senior physiotherapist and an urgent referral to a spinal surgeon was made. NHS Waiting lists are very long, and having consulted Claire Parker for her specialist spinal advice, we decided to go ahead with his operation. When he came round after his op, his first words were “I’m NOT in pain!”.
The next day he was happily discharged from Birmingham Spinal Hospital and 4 days later no longer needed any painkillers and hasn’t since. Then the real recovery started.
Claire Parker guided us through the next 8 months of gradual exercises, updates and videos of his progress, to ensure he did not do too much too soon during the healing process. Claire also advised me on his care at home.
Under my personal supervision, he has done 9 holes on a flat course without any “after pains” and agrees now that patience and listening to Claire’s trusted, professional knowledge and guidance, gives him a physical future he thought he had lost for ever.
THANK YOU, CLAIRE!
