What is Functional Medicine?
The body is designed to function well and it will adapt when the conditions provided are not optimal. Dysfunction occurs when specific areas of the body are unable perform their role or have exceeded their adaptive capacity. This can be due to an underlying deficiency, excess, or imbalance. The analogy of a tree is often used in functional medicine, because when a tree is thriving it will be seen with green leaves and strong branches. We would not ‘treat’ a diseased tree by applying a remedy to its leaves, but rather look at the soil quality, the level of hydration, or its environment.
Functional Medicine: –
- Identifies the root(s) of the issue – and takes action to resolve this.
- Understands that the body is one unit, with all parts in constant communication.
- Knows that everyone is unique in their genetic and biochemical make up – it is not a “ONE size fits all” approach.
- Is person-centred rather than disease-lead care. You might be surprised to realise that the underlying cause for your disease might be different to another person with the same disease.
- Recognises that internal and external environmental factors have an impact on dysfunction.
- Involves YOU. We work together in a therapeutic relationship to achieve your health goals, but you have to make the changes.

Meet Keeley
Hi I’m Keeley. I have worked as a dentist for over 25 years, during which time I studied for a masters in Nutritional Therapy. The decision to undertake further study in nutrition was driven by my younger sister’s illness at 35, and my frustration at being unable to find answers for her. She was eventually diagnosed with MS, but I was astonished at the ‘wait and see’ approach while her health deteriorated, so then a diagnosis could be made. I believe that a functional medicine approach early on, could have helped identify the underlying cause(s), and maybe even prevented her receiving this diagnosis.
My aim is to empower individuals to take control of their own health, become their own doctor, and embrace the opportunity of understanding their body’s needs to achieve a long, healthy, and vibrant life. I support those with complex health issues, neurological conditions, long-term fatigue, and autoimmunity. I also support those who have environmental exposure e.g. mould illness (Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome). I use Emotional Freedom Technique (tapping), and Matrix Reimprinting, when appropriate, to support those with the past trauma, and to help resolve limiting beliefs, which can hold us back from the life we desire to live.
